The Poison Jam is an item that requires 2 Red Caps, 1 Fist Full of Jam, and 1 Rock to craft, and a Science Machine to prototype.

Poison Jam can be placed on the ground and will create a Poison Puddle. Poison Puddles will attract nearby Rats and apply a poisonous status effect, dealing ? per ? seconds until death. It usually takes 10-15 seconds to kill once they have taken the poison. Pack Rats have more health, killing them in roughly 15-23 seconds. Poison Puddles can be consumed 4 times before being removed. The player can "Pick up" Poison Puddles, destroying them.

Note that a few other Mobs will try to eat Poison Puddles (and die), with Spiders and Frogs being candidates. Frogs can be devastating to your Rat poison defenses, as a single Frog Rain from spring can summon legions of Frogs that will eat all the poison.

Prototype.png Tips[edit | edit source]

  • Because Poison Puddles can be consumed by other mobs, and it is very easy for the player to accidentally destroy them, it's recommended to place Poison Puddles upon a Rat Raid.
  • Poison Puddles are best placed adjacent to the player's storage areas.
  • Rat Raids won't start to happen until day 30, so make sure you stockpile on Poison Jam for then.
  • Rats will run away from you if you haven't hit them. While sounding counter-intuitive, try to "push" any rats towards your base and chase them inside, as the poison jam will eventually kill the rats, making them drop stolen items in your base, and not far away from your base.
