The Rat Tail is an item that has a 34% chance to be obtained from killing a Rat.
Rat Tails are used in crafting to create the Plague Mask and the Tail O' Twined Rats. They count as Horrible Food, meaning they can be eaten by Winky for +5 
or by Mobs such as Pigmen, Spiders, Hounds and even Rats themselves, if they're left on the ground. They can also be traded to the Pig King for two Gold Nuggets each.
