Snap Buddy
–Wurt
The Snap Buddy is a neutral mob that can be spawned by a player that successfully grows a Whisper Pod. It spawns with a Snap Plant that is connected to it. If the player picks the Snap Plant, the Snap Buddy it is connected to will follow it, similarly to Chester and his Eye Bone. When killed it will drop one leafy meat, one petal and two Pale Vomit.
Snap Buddies create a colored Vomit every day, and will drop one when approached by a player, the color depends on the Snap Buddy's Head color when it is spawned. Vegetables or fruits can also be traded for a Vomit of the same color. Snap Buddy's different colors can be identified with the prefixes "Pale", "Pink", "Green", "Red", "Purple" and "Yellow" before their names.
They have a herd mentality, when one is attacked nearby Snap Buddies will attack you as well, but they are less threatening than a herd of Beefalo, lacking their running speed, and for that reason being easily outran and losing aggro quickly.
During Summer, they will become hostile towards any player that isn't Wormwood, this can be identified by spikes on their neck. They will also accept meat for trades during that time, but the player needs to be Wormwood to successfully perform the trade.
They will also eat any small insects they come across, healing 10 Health afterwards, a similar behavior to Frogs, but with the ability to eat aggressive insects like Aphids, Bees and Mosquitoes.
They take 3 hits with the sleep darts to be put to sleep, and 3 hits with the ice staff to be frozen.
Snap Plant[edit | edit source]
–Wurt
The Snap Plant is an item that spawns from the Whisper Pod as well, and acts as the anchor for the Snap Buddy as they will always follow it. If the Snap Buddy is killed the Snap Plant it was connected to will die as well.
There is no way to tell the difference between which Snap Plant belongs to which Buddy, so it is recommended to keep them organized. If one does lose track, a simple way to sort them is to drop all but one; whichever Snap Buddy follows you is the one the Snap Plant is connected to.
It is immune to fire, and will put itself out shortly after being ignited.
Tips[edit | edit source]
- Snap Buddies can be used to clear Infested Giant Redwoods from Aphids easily, with the added bonus of following the player to any of these trees in the Hooded Forest.
- Wormwood can grow certain types of Snap Buddies to benefit him. Pink Snap Buddies spit Pink Vomit, which gives him the longest bloom time, and Orange/Green Snap Buddies' vomit gives the most healing to him.
- A single Snap Buddy can be safely killed with 50 Monster Meat, with a stack of 20 of them dealing 400 worth of damage. This, however, can only be done effectively during Summer as Wormwood.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Snap Buddies were added in the Hooded Forest update.
- They originally gave the fruits/vegetables themselves when being traded instead of Vomit. This was changed in the Stalking Stuffers update.
- The Snap Buddy is a smaller and younger version of Snapdragons, but they will never grow into Snapdragons or produce new Whisper Pods for more Buddies. Despite this, Snap Buddies are still renewable through the Hooded Widow's cocoons being able to drop new Whisper Pods.
- They will reject Butterfly Wings given to them, but will accept Moon Moth Wings instead.
