Since early 2020 when Uncompromising Mode became available to the public, there have been periodical updates, which introduce new content, fix glitches, or balance the game.

This page lists game changing updates that add many new features or patch notes, from resources to new biomes, mobs, mechanics, small tweaks, and bug fixes.

July 23, 2020

Please consult the "FEAR THE DARK PATCH NOTES.TXT" file inside your mod directory, OR on the Workshop page. Highlights include:

  • Reworks to the Bramble Husk and Cookie Cutter
  • Rework to the Morning Star
  • Added 40% sanity aura reduction to the Dapper Vest and Thulecite Armor
  • Buffed crockpot foods, like Pumpkin Cookies, Stuffed Eggplant, and Creamy Potato Puree

Walter Changes:

  • New Firecracker Ammo
  • Woby can now be killed, only select few aggressive mobs will chase her, she does a good job at staying out of AoE
  • Woby can eat Monster Morsels

Wormwood Changes:

  • No longer has the "dig up and plant saplings for infinite sanity gain" bug
  • New craftable Honey Log Roll food for Hayfever prevention, as well as a reworked Bramble Husk

Warly Changes:

  • Gains 1.2x Health and Sanity, and 1.15x Hunger from unique foods, has increased food memory from 2 > 3 days

Wickerbottom:

  • Applied Horticulture now grows regular crops by 66%, and Wormwood crops by 44%, instead of both being 100%
  • AND MUCH, MUUUUCH MORE!

June 17, 2020

  • Toggleable Options for Shadow Creatures and Clothing Protection Degredation have been fixed
  • The Summer variant of the dragonfly no longer deals knockback
  • Lowered maximum extra shadow spawns when at 0 sanity by 1
  • Snowstorms should now properly deactivate after half a day (max)
  • Players no longer drop items upon sneezing
  • Many more bugs have been fixed, but are coming out next update, they are difficult to add to previous builds.
  • Current goal is to get the next update out this month.

  • Fixed crash when snowstorms end

  • Feather Hat skins should no longer crash the game


May 12, 2020

[CHARACTER CHANGES]

  • Wigfrid's health and sanity on hit has been nerfed by 1/3
  • Wigfrid now additonally regains small portions of health and sanity upon killing monsters
  • Wickerbottoms "On Tentacles" now spawns sickly tentacles, which die over time
  • Sickly Tentacles will not target players
  • Halved the effect radius of Applied Horticulture
  • Players can no longer read books for their magical effects when insane
  • WX-78 no longer heals when being struck by lightning (he is still immune)
  • Willow will now do a small fire explosion when lit on fire, will not damage or burn players and companions
  • Wolfgang is no longer slower by a flat 20% when mighty, he now has default movement speed at any Mightyness level
  • Wolfgang now gets Knockback immunity when mighty
  • Gave Wes a secret upside

[NEW FEATURES]

  • Ice Cream now regains extra sanity over time, similar to the Jelly Bean's effect
  • Players wearing the Bone Helm will no longer summon Creeping Fear's, and can no longer be hit by shadow projectiles
  • Increased the effect radius of the Air Conditioner
  • World Regrowth is disabled (Carrots, Light Bulbs, Trees, etc no longer spawn out of thin air)
  • Sleeping now grants Hayfever immunity
  • Hayfever properly actives 1 day into Spring
  • Penguins will no longer attack players unless they are near their ice puddle nesting grounds
  • Thulecite Armor now gives knockback immunity
  • The Luxury Fan and Perd Fan will now delay Hayfever when used
  • Trapdoor Spider Dens are now MINEABLE

[Tuning, Bug Fixes, etc]

  • Increased Toadling's jump attack damage radius, added ground pound visual effects
  • Hayfever now backs up to 10~ seconds when players are immune to its effects, instead of just being halted (This means that its not going to flicker on screen when you are a ghost, or wearing the Goose Mask or Plague Mask)
  • Trees will now burn 20% faster rather than 66% faster during winter
  • Added knockback to the Ancient Guardian, which means you are less likely to get combo stomped
  • Trap Door Spiders attack range has slightly been reduced, mainly for visual clarity
  • Reduced the Creeping Fear's attack range by a small amount
  • Fix the Dread Eye's disguise not disappearing at the same time the Dread Eye comes out of its disguise
  • Added updated Shadow Eye animations
  • Removed fluff ACTIONS code that may have been causing mod compatibility crashes
  • Deerclops no longer passively freezes the player to death when standing nearby (Don't ask)
  • Unagi no longer crashes the game when cooked, retains its regular crafting recipe
  • Return of Them new foods have been added to the crockpot nerf list
  • Lobster Dinner now requires 2 Wobsters
  • Clockworks are now immune to fire, Bishops will no longer flee between attacks
  • Increased the delay between Toad rain spawning Toads (Not FROGS, but the new yellow Toads)
  • Updated Telltale Heart crafting description

May 13, 2020 - Hotfix

  • Long Pig being invisible issue should be fixed, however this will make the previous Long Pig item useless.
  • (Long Pig can be found on skeletons, don't hammer them until you are playing version 1.5.0)

May 14, 2020 - Hotfix

  • Tentacles will now properly drop loot.
  • This does not include the new "On Tentacles" Tentacles, they still drop nothing.


May 6, 2020 - Hotfix

  • Spicy chili, vegetable stinger, and chili pepper poppers added to strong antihistamines
  • Wormwood and Willow are now ignitable
  • Both can still extinguish themselves, you cannot directly light yourself on fire using a torch or lighter, and Willow also burns for much longer.
  • Wolfgang has skipped leg day one too many times. He now moves slower when mighty, to balance out his up 25% speed boost when mighty.
  • Snowpile spawns have been fixed, the chance for one to spawn is lower per nearby player (still higher over all, since each player has a timed chance to spawn a snow pile)
  • Hayfever now starts 1 day into spring

May 2, 2020 - Goodies Galore!

Added new items:

  • Air Conditioner: Pumps different effects into the air around it depending on what colored mushroom you put inside it. Crafted with Shroom Skin and Gears.
  • Spore Pack: A Krampus Pack-sized backpack made from shroom skin, dropped by the Toadstool. Perishables put inside the pack will rot incredibly quickly.
  • Salt Shaker 3000: A fuelable chest-slot item that negates the effects of snowstorms, increase your speed by 10%, and destroys nearby snow when worn.
  • Plague Mask: A direct upgrade to the Gas Mask that has no sanity drain, has wetness protection, and prevents your max health from being drained by rats when worn.
  • Terrorbeaks now slightly lunge at the player when attacking
  • Crawling Horrors now drop shadow bombs when being hit, which will damage/ink the player
  • Dread Eye's (while disguised) will now spawn mini shadow eyes near the player, which drain sanity from sane players, and health from insane players.
  • Toadstool and Bee Queen health has been reduced (TOGGLEABLE IN OPTIONS MENU)


  • Increase vision bonus for snowstorm prevention methods
  • Toadlings are no longer burnable
  • Spiders who are mid jump no longer turn invisible when transforming under a full moon
  • Wortox now has 120 health
  • Hayfever should now be properly reversed when the Bee Queen is dead, and the hive is not fully grown
  • Revealed Bushcrabs will now spawn Bushcrabs out of nearby bushes
  • Drop rates for Bats and Catcoons fixed
  • Red Caps now help prevent Hayfever
  • Toadlings no longer target small creatures
  • Moved recipes around
  • Abigail no longer loses her mind when being hit by a snowball
  • Players no longer ignite when hitting themselves, or others wearing the scale armor with a snowball
  • Lots of updated art
  • Removed collision from lureplants
  • Wendy no longer gets 40% damage boost from Abigail, only the regular 10%
  • Tree Guards now drop leafy meat
  • Pengull's no longer attack players who are wearing the Feather Hat
  • Shadow projectiles are now visible to all players
  • Krampus now has 600 health up from 300
  • Hayfever no longer increases while the player is a ghost
  • Probably fixed Pengull AI
  • The Oasis no longer affects snowstorm effects
  • Lavae now drop explosive slime on death, which will destroy structures and set nearby things on fire!

May 5, 2020 - Hotfix

  • Crash related to the Spider Hider's is now fixed
  • Air Conditioner animation error has been fixed
  • "Hardcore Mode", a currently shelved feature that was never working, has been removed, which would cause crashes if selected
  • Fixed fatal error, apologies for the rapid updates!

May 6, 2020 - Hotfix

  • Increased Air Conditioner cost to 3 shroom skins
  • Doubled the effects of the Air Conditioner
  • Mushrooms and Spores placed inside the Air Conditioner will now become stale
  • Toadstool now drops the blueprint for the Air Conditioner
  • Spore Pack inventory slots reduced to 12 from 14
  • Spore Pack is now waterproof
  • Moon Oil now properly cures diseased plants
  • Sorry again for the rapid updates, going to focus on packaging as many fixes as possible into a patch instead of rapidly sending them out.


April 10, 2020

  • Monster Morsels can now be dried, added new sprites courtesy of KoreanWaffles
  • Eyeplant health back to default
  • Gobblers now drop 2 legs as usual
  • Improved Ice Boomerang
  • Antlion now summons additional mini sinkholes instead of meteors, these sinkholes will heal much faster (temporary replacement, more stuff coming soon)


  • Bee Hives no longer get directly snowed on
  • Structures that have been cleared of snow should be immune to getting snowed on, temporarily
  • Spiders no longer target players from double their usual vision radius
  • Ice Hounds new freezing attack will only affect players
  • Potential rat raid crash fix, thanks to user Cunning Fox
  • Spawn chance for Snowpiles, and Abominamole's brought down across the board
  • Gas Mask's and Mini Fan's no longer reverse Hayfever, but simply halt it.

Hotfix

  • Fixed a crash, sorry about the rapid updates
  • Another crash fix, sorry again

  • Gas Mask now uses 10 Gmoose Feathers instead of 12 Malbatross feathers

BIG UPDATE NEWS:

  • Tooth Traps are NO LONGER able to burn
  • Tree Regrowth time is only 5% longer, not 500% longer
  • Wormwood is now IMMUNE to Hayfever
  • Snowstorms will now start after a quarter~ day delay from when snow begins to fall
  • Snowstorms will only last for around ONE day
  • Snowpiles will no longer be able to instantly collect underneath a structure if it has just been cleared
  • Snowballs will only have a 50% chance to spawn when snowpiles are shoveled
  • Snowballs melt time decreased

Hotfix

  • Wormwood is immune to hayfever, for real this time


April 3, 2020

NEW ITEM:

  • Brand new weapon drop from the Abominamoles! It's an Ice Boomerang, will damage and partially freeze enemies on hit! It will melt over time, and will melt slightly on hit, but can also be repaired with ice! - Credits to Axe.
  • Updates to the Abominamoles sprites
  • Added snowball equipped icon

BUG FIXES:

  • The Wilting Dragonfly might not crash the game when trying to eat ashes when paired with some mods
  • Opening the map should no longer crash mods like Waypoint
  • Various other little fixes

Hotfix

  • A lot of SEEMINGLY redundant/useless code was removed from Snowstorms, if anyone notices any new oddities surrounding winter and snowstorms PLEASE contact anyone, or post a comment.
  • Ice Boomerang's can now properly be fixed
  • Slightly reduced the damage radius of the Abominamoles landing attack.
  • Ice Boomerangs can be preserved in iceboxes, tuned some numbers.

April 4, 2020 - Hotfix

  • Snowstorms can no longer arrive before day 22
  • The Acid Rain / Mushroom Sprout events will not happen before day 50 (for people who set Autumn to last longer)


April 1, 2020

  • Abominamoles now drop also snowballs upon death.
  • Snowball's no longer crash the game when melting
  • Acid Rain/Mushroom Sprouts will no longer spawn during first Autumn (no matter HOW long it's set to last)


March 31, 2020

  • Bird's should no longer crash the game when being fed monster morsels.
  • Updated Rats to drop monster morsels instead of monster meat (drops not final)
  • Pengull's will now properly keep their target when in a group.


March 29, 2020

  • Sand, and sand piles have been removed
  • Sand was a scrapped resource that left people a bit confused, and only had ONE purpose for a crafting recipe.
  • Fixed a potential crash, maybe? (thanks Hornet, maybe?)
  • More content to come.
