The Pawn is a small clockwork that can be found scouting the Village Biome in the Ruins. If the player gets too close, it will first despawn itself and any other nearby Pawns, to then trap the player in an arena surrounded by Nightmare Ramparts, where they need to fight a Mechanical Monstrosity and either a Comingled Clockwork or a Automaton Abomination. Killing the Clockwork Amalgams is not necessary to flee the arena, since the Nightmare Ramparts despawn after a while, but the Amalgams will follow the player from very far and will never despawn.
The Nightmare Ramparts that spawn from Pawns have much weaker effects than their Lunar Grotto counterparts, with a sanity aura of -25 / min instead of -800
/ min and being unable to spawn Nightmare Fissures.
Pawns have a special map icon, that can be used to help avoiding them.
Trivia
- Pawns were a scrapped design by Klei, as seen in an old Concept Art.
- The sounds and fx that the Pawns use come from the Divining Rod, from Don't Starve.
