The Pineling is a small, pinetree shaped monster that are spawned in groups by Tree stumps, Treeguards, and Night Terrors. Unlike Treeguards they are hostile, and will attack you even if you haven't chopped a tree.

Making sure no stumps are nearby is a good way to prevent them. However, if a Treeguard is around this will cause it to do their cage attack instead which can be worse, depending on the situation.

They attack their target by spinning their legs around, similar to a Skittersquid, This means they will also dash away from other Pinelings doing their attack.

Birchlings function exactly the same, and are simply reskins, but are spawned from Birch Stumps instead.

It takes 3 Sleep Darts to put Pinelings to sleep and they will be frozen after 2 blasts from an Ice Staff.

• Pinelings were introduced in the Fear The Dark update.
• Birchlings were introduced in the Fight And Flight update.
