The Fruit Bat is a passive Mob that naturally spawns from Pitcher Plants and occasionally spawn when digging ripe Boomberry Plants, both of these being found in the Hooded Forest. Even if they are passive, they will attack insects, like Bees and Spiders, on sight, except for bosses. They will also catch Aphids and Nymphs, flying away with them and appearing again after 10 seconds, if they were near a pitcher plant when this happens the pitcher plant will occasionally drop honey after they reappear.

When killed, the Fruit Bat will have 50% chance of dropping a Bat Wing, and they will also fall to the ground and explode after a few seconds, dealing the same damage as ripe Boomberry Plants (60).

It takes 2 blasts from the Ice Staff to be frozen, and 3 Sleep Darts to put to sleep.

Tips

• When basing on the Hooded Forest, have in mind how close your base is from Fruit Bat spawners. While they will help clearing out annoying Aphids, they will also constantly attack the Bees from your Honey farms, the Friendly Fruit Fly and Bulbous Lightbugs.

Trivia

• Fruit Bat was added in the Hooded Forest update.
• Its name is a pun on the real animal fruit bat, but it is literally a bat made out of fruit.
• A single Fruit Bat can kill all the Spiders in a Tier 1 Spider Den, mainly because of its ability of exploding on death.

Bugs

• Fruit Bats don't actually despawn after flying upwards with an Aphid, meaning they will stay up in the sky and even slowly fall to land again, unable to be attacked or move.
• Fruit Bats get very aggressive towards players that use certain ranged weapons against them, those being the Fire Staff, Ice Staff, Sleep Dart, and Weather Pain, with the possibility of a few more included. Best not to bother them with those.
