The Hooded Widow is an aggressive Boss Monster added to the game in the Hooded Forest update. She has 8000 health and attacks in a variety of ways. Its monstrous appearance quickly drains Sanity when the player gets too close.
When killed, it will drop 4 pieces of Monster Meat, 4 pieces of Silk, the Widow's Head and the Widow's Claw.
She spawns from the webbing found in the hooded forest, surrounded by Silky Cocoons. Attempting to attack any of the cocoons will spawn her.
The Hooded Widow will return to her web and disappear when she has nothing left to fight. She will Also return to her Web and disappear when another Boss is nearby.
She takes 3 blasts from the Ice Staff to be frozen, and 4 Sleep Darts to be put to sleep.
Behavior[edit | edit source]
The Hooded Widow only spawns when her cocoons are attacked. She drops down from the trees and the fight begins there.
- Hooded Widow's basic attack is a regular bite/slash that does 80 damage in an AoE.
- Hooded Widow can leap towards the player to do an AoE attack akin to Bearger's Slam. The player can walk under her while she leaps.
- Hooded Widow shoots out a spread of webs that can either immobilize the player or stick on the ground, which spawn web creep and can be destroyed.
- While the player is immobilized, armor loses about 4X durability from the Hooded Widow's attacks.
- Hooded Widow can chain multiple of her basic attacks when below half health (she attacks multiple times in a row).
- Hooded Widow will attempt to shoot a web out on any player attempting to run away, and drag them back into the fight.
- Hooded Widow will run away and despawn from any bosses nearby. This excludes Treeguards, however.
Strategy[edit | edit source]
Kiting[edit | edit source]
Kiting is a process wherein a monster's attack is dodged, and then the monster is hit immediately after, but before the monster can attack again. For Hooded Widow, hit the boss 3 times before dodging its attack. If it's the claw swipe, simply back away for a moment and go back to hitting her. If you see her recoiling and getting ready to jump, dodge by walking into her, so that she jumps past you. If she begins to prepare a web with her claws, run away and try to dodge the web balls she slings.
(Note, running too far away from the cocoons will cause her to attempt pulling the player back with strings of silk, bringing them to the center of the arena.)
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Hooded Widow was added in the Hooded Forest update.
- The Gorgon from the Evolve game developed by Turtle Rock Studios was used as a reference for Hooded Widow's design.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
- Attempting to spawn her with console commands will result in a crash, because of the fact that she doesn't have an arena. You can still effectively spawn her in by using the command "c_spawn ("widowwebspawner")".
- Woodie's Weremoose form is immune to being stunned by the web projectiles.
